Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that usually affects the eyes and face.

It causes blood vessels to dilate, causing veins to become visible and red.

Alongside redness, rosacea can cause pimples, thicker skin and patches of yellow and orange discolouration.

Rosacea can cause discomfort too, like sore eyelids, grit around the roots of the eyelashes; swelling or dryness to the face.

Thicker skin.

The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but we know it’s a combination of genetics and environment.

Scientists have a couple of theories: abnormal blood vessels in the face, an unusual immune response to microscopic mites on the face.

Inflammation is a known factor, as this impairs the function of the skin as natural barrier.

Oxidative stress can cause inflammation and variants in genes that provide protection (glutathione S-transferases) have been linked to rosacea. Assessing toxin levels, which increase oxidative stress may be key for defining the cause of rosacea.

B vitamin deficiencies have been linked to rosacea.

Flare ups have many triggers: stress, digestive imbalance, hot and cold temperatures, spicy food, smoking, alcohol, running, hormonal fluctuations and exposure to UV.

Our naturopaths can identify if you’ve got rosacea, or a similar condition like acne, or contact dermatitis.

We can also test root cause of your condition, or triggers that may be causing flare ups. From digestive tests, to inflammation, toxin tests and more.
