Urticaria (hives)
Hives is a rash caused by a histamine reaction.
It may look like an allergic reaction, but is not. If symptoms do not dissipate after two days, the rash is spreading or is recurrent, you should seek further medical advice.
The key symptom of hives is a rash, which is usually uncomfortable, causing itching, burning or stinging.
The rash may cover one area of the body, or the whole body; it may be raised; on people with white or pale skin the rash may be pink.
Hives is caused by your immune system releasing histamine in response to something it identifies as foreign.
They’re usually caused by eating a particular food; coming into contact with a certain material, plant, animal or chemical; medicines; insect bites or stings; sensations like cold, hot or scratching; stress; sweat; an immune problem.
Toxins and viruses may also cause hives.
If you’re experiencing repeated occurrence of hives, our industry leading tests can confirm allergies and intolerances; check for toxins; analyse the root cause of low immunity.
